Account deletion

Delete your Trace account

Trace (published by Trace on Google Play and the App Store) lets you permanently delete your account from inside the app. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.

How to delete your account in the Trace app

Follow these steps while signed in on the device where you use Trace:

  1. Open the Trace app on your iPhone or Android phone.
  2. Go to Profile (bottom navigation) → Settings.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of Settings.
  4. Tap Rarely needed to expand the account section.
  5. Tap I still need to delete my account, then tap Delete account.
  6. Read the confirmation message and tap Delete to finish. Your account and associated data are removed right away.

You must be signed in with the account you want to remove. If you only want to stop using Trace on a device, Sign out in Settings is enough and does not delete your data.

Can’t access the app?

If you cannot sign in or no longer have the app installed, email us through the feedback form. Choose a subject like Account deletion request, include the email address tied to your Trace account, and we will verify ownership and delete the account for you.

When deletion completes

In-app deletion usually finishes within a few seconds. You are signed out automatically. If deletion fails, try again on a stable connection or contact us via the feedback form.

What we delete

When your Trace account is deleted, we permanently remove data linked to your user ID, including:

  • Your sign-in credentials and authentication record
  • Profile information (display name, username, bio, avatar, preferences, and privacy settings)
  • Trips and itineraries you created or co-managed, including stops, polls, expenses, documents metadata, and collaboration membership
  • Social activity (follows, likes, bookmarks, comments, and notifications tied to your account)
  • Files you uploaded (profile photos, trip images, import files, top-spot images, and trip documents) from Trace storage
  • Device push tokens and per-account rate-limit records on our servers
  • On-device caches cleared by the app when deletion succeeds

What we may keep (and for how long)

  • Encrypted infrastructure backups — Our database provider may retain short-lived encrypted backups for disaster recovery. These roll off on an automatic schedule (typically within days, not months) and are not used to restore deleted accounts on request.
  • Aggregated analytics — De-identified counts and metrics that can no longer be linked to you (for example, total app usage trends).
  • Support or feedback you sent separately — Messages submitted through our feedback form or email may remain in our support tools until we process a separate deletion request for those records.
  • Crash and diagnostic logs — Firebase Crashlytics and similar services may retain limited technical logs for a period defined by those providers’ policies. Logs are not used to keep your profile or trip content available in Trace.
  • Legal or security records — We may retain minimal information where required by law or to prevent abuse (for example, fraud prevention), only as long as necessary.
